Sunset Baby

What if there were multiple futures and you could see them all at once? Such is the basis of In the Summer Pavilion, a theatrical production in which three recent Princeton grads drop acid and are repeatedly hurtled forward in time to see multiple selves and futures. In keeping with a central theme of the play, the randomness and ever-changing nature of the future, I chose to use a great deal of generative music, which unfolds randomly over time, unable to predict what sound comes next. In the Summer Pavilion opened October 18th 2012, at the 59e59 Theater in Manhattan's Upper East Side.

Theaterworks

A powerful and honest story of one woman’s journey from a hard existence to her own liberation. SUNSET BABY is an energetic, daring look at the point where the personal and political collide. From one of the most exciting young voices in American theater, this dynamic new play about fathers and daughters sears with wit and wisdom and the politics of freedom.

"The show’s design is wonderful, especially Julian Evans’ sound design. There is an audio cue that shifts from a door buzzer to Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” that flows seamlessly and the balance of Simone’s songs draws attention to the varying moods of the character Nina (who coincidentally is named after the singer) without becoming an overpowering distraction to the audience." - Tim Leininger, Journal Inquirer

"Julian Evans’ sound design adds so much to the mood." - Mark Auerbach, The Westfield News
